Meet Katie

I am a counsellor, educator, and consultant specialising in work with individuals and organisations operating under pressure.

My work focuses on how people think, respond, and function in complex, high-responsibility environments. Whether that is in their personal lives, their professional roles, or the systems they are part of.

I am masters-trained and have extensive experience across New Zealand, Australia, and the United States, working in crisis, domestic and family violence, and trauma-exposed contexts. This includes both direct client work and system-level support within high-pressure environments.

How I work

I work with capable, high-functioning people who are often managing more than is visible from the outside.

Many of my clients are:

  • carrying significant responsibility

  • navigating complexity in their roles or relationships

  • aware that something isn’t sitting quite right, even if they are “coping”

My work is grounded in evidence-based, trauma-informed practice, and draws on a range of therapeutic approaches, including EMDR, somatic therapies, and systems-informed thinking.

I work in a way that is calm, direct, and collaborative, with a strong focus on clarity, practical insight, and real-world application.

This is not about pathologising capable people, or offering surface-level solutions to complex problems.

It is about understanding what is actually happening beneath the surface — and supporting change that is meaningful, sustainable, and grounded in your reality.

Experience in high-pressure environments

A significant part of my work has been alongside emergency services and other trauma-exposed sectors.

This has involved supporting individuals, teams, and systems where:

  • exposure to critical incidents is routine

  • decision-making carries real consequences

  • performance is required under pressure

  • the personal cost of the work is often hidden

I understand the realities of shift work, operational environments, chain of command, and the complexity of roles where responsibility is high and support is not always straightforward.

This experience directly informs my work across counselling, professional supervision, and consulting.

A note about me

I was raised in a rural community in Aotearoa New Zealand and have lived and worked across New Zealand, Australia, and the United States.

Outside of my professional work, I value time with my family, my own creative practice, and a good belly laugh. These are the things that keep me grounded in the work that I do.
