ABOUT ME

Kia Ora! Hello!

I grew up in Aotearoa, New Zealand and have previously lived on the Gold Coast. After living and studying in the US through the Covid-19 pandemic, my family and I returned to set down roots here on the Gold Coast in 2023. It feels good to be under the Southern Cross again! I offer therapy via a secure online platform, so while I am based on the Gold Coast, I can see anyone across Australia.

I believe in the healing capacity of strengths-based and research supported therapeutic interventions and frameworks. The real magic is where all that good stuff integrates with being human and knowing when and how to adapt to what the client brings to the room. I happen to think I'm pretty good at that!

There is overlap in most modalities I have trained in, and there are specific interventions and ways of working in each that are suitable to different people and their presentations.

I specifically have an interest and a working knowledge of the following:

  • Person-Centered therapy approaches

  • Solution-focused therapy

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Internal and Parts based therapies

  • Somatic and Movement Integration

EXPERIENCE

Before I became a counsellor I worked for twenty years in various human development and movement fields. First as a Strength and Conditioning Trainer and Massage Therapist. Then, following another few years of university, I taught Fine Arts, Physical Education, Outdoor Education and Health at high schools across NZ and Australia. While studying towards my Masters in Counselling in NZ, I was working full time as a High School Mental Health Counsellor with a very high risk/high needs population. As well as working closely with those experiencing general school difficulties, I also worked with mood, personality, developmental and neurocognitive disorders, eating disorders, sexual assault, family violence, abuse, neglect and with young people in foster families.

Following my move to Montana in the US,  I completed my Masters degree in order to become licenced according to the requirements of the US and the state of Montana. During that time I worked under supervision first in the Human Development Clinic at Montana State University and then at Haven, a Bozeman agency serving people impacted by domestic abuse, violence, stalking and sex trafficking.

Post-graduation I ran my own private practice 'Sage Counseling', where I continued to treat a wide range of clients, with a focus on acute and complex trauma and relational based issues.

This work continues now that I am 'home' and offering Telehealth (online) therapy across Australia.

I also have specialist experience working with First Responders in Australia.
